The strongest commercial traction among GSMA Open Gateway APIs is in identity and trust APIs such as SIM Swap, Number Verification and KYC Match, according to the GSMA’s new report “GSMA Open Gateway: State of the Market, H1 2026.” The SIM Swap API has emerged as the most widely deployed across the world, leveraging its ability to identity fraud More broadly, APIs supporting security use cases continue to be the most popular, with phone number verification also extensive. The report cites examples of Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telus demonstrating adoption of these APIs in banking as a way of replacing SMS OTP and reducing fraud. The APIs embed directly into financial onboarding and transaction flows, enabling these to become the first significant revenue-generating category of Open Gateway network API.
