There’s only upside to this morning’s announcement of the partnership between F-Secure and Outwo. Helsinki-based F-Secure is the world’s largest consumer security software vendor, measured in terms of global sales to telco and ISP channel partners. Qutwo, also Helsinki-based, aims to be “the Palantir of the quantum computing era.” It recently raised a €25m angel round, valuing the company at €325m. Upsides as follows:
- F-Secure and its partners and customers stand to benefit from augmenting the efficacy of its scam protection solutions with a best in class AI partner.
- Europe has a yawning chasm to make up on the U.S and China in terms of its ability to scale promising high tech companies. Any partnering that can drive scale from within Europe is a good thing. In digital sovereignty terms, Qutwo’s founders and management team also have no record of championing the kind of toxic, far right political extremism that makes some American AI companies, like Palantir, a potentially serious national security risk.
- Telcos and the consumers they serve throughout the world stand to benefit from a defensive AI arms race among cybersecurity vendors to augment their consumer scam and threat protection solutions with best-in-class AI software.
